BRIEF HISTORY

Cognizant of our fundamental rights as entrenched in Chapter 4, Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, we decided to come together as a Union, as categorized in the Trade Union restructuring Gazette No. 6, Vol. 65 of 8th February, 1978. As an independent trade Union body, we chose for ourselves Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) in 1992. It was formally registered as such in 2010 by the Office of the Registrar of Trade Unions in Nigeria, with Registration No. 0115.

1. To organize all the academic staff members of the Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

Membership of the Union
COEASU is open to all academic staff in the employment of a College of Education in Nigeria. No person is deprived of membership of the Union on grounds of gender, religion, political affiliation, or ethnic background.
